Staying In The Gap Zone

The entire organism is perceived to be in danger when there is no survival strategy, no reconfiguring and reconstructing the personality and self-concept. When you stop all strategies, you might at first find yourself emotionally agitated. If you can you feel the emotional agitation without having to go back to an old survival strategy, then you can go forward to the person who is at peace. The question is, can you remain wherever you find yourself, just sit there in the middle of it, no matter the level of emotional or physical discomfort.

For the purpose of investigation, are you willing to look at how you don’t want to stay with what you are feeling? And yet what you’re feeling is where you are, in the moment. Turn on your observer, allow your higher self to watch the emotional agitation. Notice that the observer is not agitated, it is only the emotions that are agitated. You can just be there with the emotions without thinking about how it should be different? This is facing the emotions, rather than running away from them or trying to get rid of them. The more you don’t want to have agitated emotions the stronger they become. The more you try to do something to fix the problem, the more complex and configured the problem becomes.

The act of looking for a solution to the problem creates the problem. Stop and observe and you give up being a victim of your emotions and learn to love the emotional agitation, it is just data, information. You just let it play through you and face where you are in the moment. You drop all desire to change. In that moment the emotion passes through and dissolves, then everything changes.

This point of transition, this gap point, this place of doing nothing from the rational mind, is no man’s land. And all of the mind’s activity around that gap, is to get out of the gap, because it is the unknown. And yet “it” is the destination, and everyone tries to jump over that gap. They do it with spiritual understanding, with conceptual understanding, with mind chatter such as; there is no gap, there is nothing to jump over, there is no anything. They try to jump over the gap with Buddhism, with Judaism, with Christianity, with meditation, with everything.

The possibility here, is to learn in that gap point what doesn’t need to be stilled to be still. If you’re holding on to understanding, of even this statement, there is an overlooking of what doesn’t need to be understood to be at peace. True peace, true silence, is closer to you than even your breath. Stay here, now, stop trying to get away from the richness and freedom of the present moment.

    Thank you, Karl for the article.
    I was through a situation of feeling overwhelmed by duties and things to proceed with. Just to stay in it and reporting the feeling and the data by words, helped me calm down and to feel more energized again. Nothing less, nothing more. Nothing fixed by others. Just me rapporting, and my husbond listening. Astrid
